Juicy Salif is both a lemon squeezer and the trigger for manyconversations.Immense popular and academic success, it is still one of Alessi’s best-selling andpublished creations. A structurally new, visionary and timeless object that has become an iconof contemporary design. When Alberto Alessi asked Philippe Starck to create a butter dish.. It might seem bizarre that an object as mundane as a juicer should manage to conquer the covers of books and magazines, or end up on display in museums. But not if that juicer is the Juicy Salif by Philippe Starck (Paris, 1949), one of the most famous objects in design history.Designed by the famous French designer in 1988, it was launched by the Alessi company in 1990 and was an immediate.

Juicy Salif, a citrus reamer designed by Philippe Starck in 1990, is considered an icon of industrial design, and has been displayed in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, as well as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. It has also received this distinction at the RISD Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.. By usability research, it barely functions as a lemon squeezer, people complained that it’s not comfortable or even it doesn’t feel safe. However, Starck’s said, “My juicer is not meant to squeeze lemons; it is meant to start conversations.” It was deliberately designed to be recognised as an iconic design.
